Get an even and smooth tone with a Photofacial (IPL)!
IPL or Intense Pulsed Light treatment, otherwise known as a photofacial, is a great solution to treat pigmentation, redness, or small blood vessels that makes your skin tone uneven. Pigmentation may be a result of years of damage caused by environmental factors such as the sun.
What is a Limelight Photofacial (IPL)?
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) sources emit diffuse (noncoherent) light energy with different wavelengths (polychromatic). IPL devices are used to target cells with color (chromophores) and subsequently treat pigmented lesions (age spots, sun spots, freckles) but also treat many other conditions (vascular lesions, rosacea) as the heat emitted helps destroy blood vessel walls. Although not as effective as Laser Hair Removal, IPL may be used for removing unwanted hair.
The first IPL device was FDA approved for telangiectasias or spider veins in 1995. One of the most well known IPL devices is the Cutera LimeLight. This device may be customized for different skin tones and skin conditions to produce excellent results with minimal discomfort.
Treatment
Treatment time may vary based on the size of the treatment area but generally takes about 20-30 minutes. You will be required to wear dark glasses to protect your eyes from the light rays. The procedure involves minimal discomfort, and a local anesthetic may be used for enhanced comfort. The treatment results can be seen a few weeks after the treatment.
The frequency of IPL treatments depends on several factors but in general, IPL treatments are usually done in a series of 3-6 sessions, spaced 4-6 weeks apart. After the initial series of treatments, maintenance treatments may be done approximately every 6-12 months to maintain the results.
